Life on Hilton Head

It’s hard to believe I just have 3 more weeks before heading back to Vermont.  It has been wonderful here in Hilton Head which now feels like a second home, and I know both Bella, my little Maltese therapy dog, and I will have withdrawal pains.  It has been 3 months of new experiences, new friends as well as a continuation of experiences and friendships from last year.  I’m glad to be able to spend quality time with my brother who is in poor health, and my sister in law, who live here year round.

The workshop I gave on Hypnosis: Accessing Your Body’s Wisdom  included hypnotizing 25 people for Life Long Learning, something I had never done before.  But it went well and  has opened many doors – new clients,  interesting people - and  Living Your Purpose – On Purpose, a workshop that because of the Hypnosis experience, a class was created that had 14 people sign up with a waiting list for next year.

A word about hypnosis: what is great  is that you can do hypnosis in person or you can do it over the phone, just like Coaching.  My latest three are weight loss, alcohol addiction, both in person, and Accessing the Wisdom of Your Soul by phone, which was “profound” for the person long distance.  I love coaching and adding hypnosis adds a great deal of depth.

My chiropractor/kineseologist/nutritionist son, Chris, who  teaches nutrition classes with an emphasis on Isagenix, a fabulous fat loss, cleanse and detox program,  sent me an article on hypnosis from the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1996 that stated adding hypnosis to weight loss program  increases results by 97% and post treatment by 146%.

Hypnosis bypasses the Conscious mind, which has all the reasons why something won’t work,  to the Subconscious mind  which says “Yes” to any message we give it, and combining the Subconscious with the Superconscious mind, which always wants our highest good, gives very impressive results.

So the combination of  meaningful work,  social time with kindred spirits, daily beach walks is one that sure has worked for me this winter.

But the time is coming that my thoughts are heading towards home – family and friends and a continuation of meaningful work that I can do wherever I am.  I am realizing more and more that it’s not about outer circumstances as it is in appreciating what life has to offer in the moment – and giving gratitude.

What are you grateful for?

30 Day Challenge

It has been with surprise – and a surprise that touches my heart – of the response from people about the “Celebrate Kindness” opportunity and challenge that I wrote about here on October 4th.  Over and over, each in their own way, the message has been “I want to do this.  I want to be kinder.”

What a better world it would be if we would all be a little kinder.  I know there are times I slip when I’m feeling hurried or stressed for one reason or another, but it’s a wake up call when I do.  The message for me, and perhaps for you?  Slow down.  Show appreciation.   Feel compassion for what others are going through.   Return to kindness.

Let me know if you do accept this opportunity/challenge and we can share our results in a month or so – results in actions as well as our feelings about them.

Synchronicities

As anyone who knows me, I love synchronicities – those  times that one thing after another just seems to fall into place toward a desired outcome – or a surprise that I wasn’t even looking for.

The latter happened a few days ago and I’d like to share it with you.

My logo is a heart in hands with the world behind it.  Initially it was just the heart in hands and later, I added the world.

I was reading the Curves magazine, diane, and there, much to my surprise was “my” logo – a heart in hands with the words “Good deeds are from the heart”.  I read on:

“Celebrate Kindness”

“In today’s tough times, one of the best things we can do to make our lives better is to reach out to someone who could use a little help.  Not only does it take the focus off ourselves, but it also fills us with a greater appreciation of our own blessings.  Let’s challenge ourselves to do one act of kindness every day for 30 days straight.  Put a smile on someone’s face, lend a helping hand, give hope – make a difference in someone’s life.  Here’s how to track it:  Pull out a sheet of paper and write “Celebrate Kindness” at the top, then write the numbers, 1 through 30  down the page.  Each day record your good deed and how you felt.  If you have children or grandchildren, this would make a fun activity to do together, with huge rewards.”

Reading this brought back memories of my mother who felt a day was not complete unless she had done something to make a difference for another.

When I first read “Celebrate Kindness”, it spoke to me as a challenge I wanted to accept.  Would you like to join me in this opportunity during this time of transition?   What I am finding is that it brings “random acts of kindness” to a level of awareness that I intend to become a habit – I am remembering that studies show that it takes 21 – 30 days to form a new or release an old habit.   Let me know if you’d like to accept this opportunity with me and share what it was like for you after 30 days!  I will respond personally and share my experiences as well.

I don’t think there’s any question about it: helping others can help us feel inspired and motivated, to feel we’ve made a difference to someone - a thought, a card, a call, our caring, our support – our time.  It really comes down to “an attitude of gratitude” that, when shared, is contagious.

YOU Make A Difference!

Susie

Did you know a book can offer new perspective on life?

If we’re fortunate enough, we come across a book that stops us in our tracks, offers a new perspective on our lives and reminds us, as George Eliot said, “It’s never too late to become who we might have been.”

It is with great pleasure that I announce the release of my new book which does just that.

Walking the Spiritual Path With Practical Feet: Ten Visionaries Who Make A Difference is a powerful anthology with some of the people who have made a significant difference in my life. My signature phrase is “You Make A Difference” and these authors are models for me with what that phrase means. They will do the same for you by providing pearls of wisdom from a personal, business and spiritual focus and guide us toward a more fulfilling life.

Do you ever ask yourself any of these questions?

  • How can I make my work or home life more rewarding?
  • How can I reduce stress and feel less discouraged or overwhelmed with my life?
  • How do I find the inspiration to make my life what I want it to be?
  • Is it possible to discover practical ways to live a more purposeful life?
