Pay It Forward
Wikipedia’s definition of ‘pay it forward’ is:
“the concept of asking that a good turn be repaid by having it done to others instead”
The movie “Pay It Forward” is about:
“the notion of paying a favour not back, but forward–repaying good deeds not with payback. but with deeds done to new people”
Pay It Forward is about making a change, doing something for no particular reason other than to inspire people to make a positive change in someone else’s life.
I would love to hear your “Pay It Forward” stories.

Simplify – My Motto This Summer
I have decided to make my life simpler, less busy, better balance of inward and outward.
How are you simplify your life? Are you:
1. De-cluttering. Cleaning out closets, your basement, office, etc.
2. Saying no when previously you would have said yes
3. Making time for yourself
4. Spending more time with family
5. Taking quiet time to listen to what is within you
I would love to hear what you are doing to simplify YOUR life!

How happy do you want to be?
I am always searching for purpose in the every day.
I’ve been watching more carefully the simple things that have brought me happiness.
It isn’t about feeling perpetually happy all the time. Life has its obstacles for sure, and sometimes they’re very challenging. It is, though, about finding the happy moments that are all around us if we just become more aware of them. And to accept them with gratitude.
I love synchronisity and wouldn’t you know, just this morning, I came across this quote:
“Now and then it’s good to pause in the pursuit of happiness and just be happy.” — Guillaume Apollinaire
How happy do you want to be? Do you want to join me in looking for the happy moments, perhaps in unexpected places – and give gratitude for that simplicity?

Wishing you happiness in your life – and all that has heart and meaning for you on your own path.

How I Want To Live My Life
I had an idea of listing those personal/professional qualities that I most want to exhibit on a daily basis.
Here are some examples on my list that I ask myself at the end of the day.
Today:
1) Did you make good choices?
2) Did you tell someone you loved them?
3) Did you express appreciation to others?
4) Did you eat in a healthy way?
5) Did you exercise?
6) Did you show special care to Angel, Spirit and Bella (my animals)?
7) Did you do some spiritual practice?
Did you appreciate nature?
9) Did you make a difference for anyone?
10) Were you happy with your personal/professional/spiritual balance?
11) Did you think with your heart?
12) Were you kind?
13) Did you feel good – mentally, emotionally, spiritually?
As you consider which questions will get at your ‘ideal’ qualities of how you want to live your life, try adding one that has to do with a behavioral change you believe will make a difference. For example, my behavioral change focus right now is ‘were you appropriate in action/non-action’? In order to see the impact my positive intentions can have and understanding when it is better to wait or not to act or speak at all, I want to be more conscious about my action and non-action.
So what would your list look like?
Think about it – what if you developed the qualities of how you want to live your life and then checked in daily to see how closely you were aligned with your ideal vision? As Claude Bristol says “Undoubtedly, we become what we envisage.”
It’s not about being perfect – many of us will have “blunders and absurdities” that creep in. But tomorrow is a new day and we can “begin it well and serenely.”
I hope you’ll experiment with this – it has helped keep me focused during the day on what matters how I live my life…and what doesn’t. Give it a few days, or a week if you can. Then let me know how it goes for you….

Spirit
Spirit implies a connection to something higher than ourselves.
I can give more in relationships that make a difference to me when I feel a connection to a power higher than myself, when I will take the time to be quiet, to listen, to give gratitude, to ask for healing. I feel congruent with all dimensions of myself at such times – emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually. When I am not connected with this Source, I am connected with neither myself nor others. This is when I make poor decisions; feel indecisive, out of balance. Where can we find the quiet to nurture our own spirit so we can have more to give? Perhaps in nature – a hike in the woods or up a mountain or sitting by the ocean.
What can you do to raise spirit at work? Higher spirit means greater morale and relationships, leading higher productivity. We can’t get positive results with negative conditioning. Since our work goes home with us and home comes to work with us, if one is out of the balance, it affects the other.

10 ways to shed emotional pounds
Many of us also desire to lose the kind of weight that affects us physically, psychologically, mentally, and spiritually. I’m talking about the emotional weight, the heavy baggage we carry around with us, often buried below the surface—all the “could of’s”, the “should of’s”, the “wish I had’s”, the “wish I hadn’t.” These surface when we’re embroiled in an issue or concern that, in the end, doesn’t matter.

Birthdays
Polly just called and left this message:
“Hi, Sooz m’ Dooz” (that’s what she calls me; I call her “Polly Doodle” – we’ve known each other since our kids were pre-school)
“We (Jack and Polly, of course), know your birthday is coming up and we’re going to save you from being as obnoxious as you usually are about your birthday to give you the directive which you can send out to everybody that it’s your birthday on Monday and to let everyone know that Jack and I are bringing a cake on Sunday…”
I stood there and burst out laughing…I am totally obnoxious about my birthday, I have no sympathy for anyone who says someone forgot their birthday as that is impossible for anyone I love and with whom I want to celebrate. As a matter of fact, ever since I was a child, I’ve answered the phone on my birthday (May 5th, it falls on a Monday this year, as Polly has shared) saying “Happy This My Very Own Day.” ….if it’s a business call, there will be a pause and someone will say “I’m looking for Susan Hastings of Creative Communications Center” and I will respond : “This is Susan (I am only Susan professionally) and it’s my birthday so I’m sure you’ll want to wish me Happy This My Very Own Day!” Pause…….”Oh, ah, yes, of course – Happy Birthday.” (no enthusiasm)
Last year, when my son Brad called and got my standard greeting, I told him that perhaps I would stop that greeting one day. His response? “I doubt it.”
And I have trained many friends to know that birthdays should last a full week – 3 days before This Your Very Own Day and 3 days after so of course, our pot luck comes within that time frame. But do know, I get excited about others’ birthdays as well …perhaps we should have a monthly birthday celebration…?

How Happy Do You Want to Be?
~Abraham Lincoln
The next morning I reflected back on that brief moment – a moment which brought to my awareness such happiness and contentment. It really is the simplest things that can bring us such deep gratitude – and again, I am reminded of the intertwining of happiness and gratitude.
So I’ve been watching more carefully the simple things that have brought me happiness in the few days since then and here are a few – perhaps you can create your own list.
**** even though I was sick, I was happy that it was during a heavy snowfall where I didn’t want to go out anyway and could stay inside by the fire watching the beauty of it all outside.
*** I felt happy when I took a nap and Bella was lying on my stomach and Angel was purring in the crook of my arm.
*** I felt happy when a friend, who had read my book, ordered another copy for a birthday present.
*** I felt happy when I got a special email from a friend I hadn’t been in touch with for years.
I could go on but you get the idea.
Was I able to find happy moments because this was such an overall happy week? No. As a matter of fact it has been a very stressful week. But then I find myself feeling happy that I have such wonderful healers in my life and that, in addition, I can – and have – tapped into my own healing resources through meditation, prayer, quiet times, journaling and my Angel Messenger Cards which always has the amazingly perfect 3 page message for me each day.
It isn’t about feeling perpetually happy all the time. Life has its obstacles for sure, and sometimes they’re very challenging. It is, though, about finding the happy moments that are all around us if we just become more aware of them. And to accept them with gratitude.
