Fall Offering

Author: Fall is here and though I’m sorry summer is over, I’m looking forward to all the fall is offering in so many ways – including my own Fall Offerings. In fact, this weekend is the first offical ad in my local paper about them all: Essentials of Coaching: the Art and Skils to Become a World Class Coach, the first phase of a 7 month certification program to become a Holistic Life Coach, Nov 2-4; Bagels and Balance, a small group hypnosis workshop to discover how to create more joy, happiness and balance in your life, October 20th, 9 -5; Parent Effectiveness Training because of a request to teach it still once again, October 13, 9-5. I recently returned from the National Guild of Hypnotists convention where I learned some great new skills for my hypnotherapy practice – where I can combine hypnosis with my usual therapy and coaching. One skill I am using with amazing results is talking to the conflicting parts of a person when they’re in trance and coming up with insights that lead to positive action. For example: wanting to lose weight. There’s a part that wants to but there’s another part that doesn’t..or a smoker that wants to give up smoking but there’s a conflicting part that doesn’t want to. And I’ve also worked with a couple of clients who just know they have a block but they don’t know what it is …this process will discover the blocked part. What emerges is truly amazing! And what is additionally wonderful is that one of the two sessions that I did with discovering the blocks was over the phone!
The Olympics
I’m watching the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics right now …brings back happy memories of the two I have attended when my two sons were in the winter Olympics – Sarajevo in 1984 when Jeff competed and Canada in 1988 when Chris did. Such a wonderful event – I remember being glad for sun glasses as tears streamed down my face, knowing that everyone marching was someone’s son, daughter, husband, wife, father or, mother and believing that if everyone in the world could take a note from the Olypians on how to transcend ccompetition into friendship, there would be no more wars.

Ten Visionaries Who Make A Difference Teleseries Thanks to Ken Shelton, I started writing seriously which ultimately led to Walking the Spiritual Path: Ten Visionaries Who Make A Difference. I first met Ken at an AMA sponsored Leadership Conference where I was giving a workshop. The standard question in our first meeting: Ken: “Have you written a book?” “No.” “Why not?” My standard answer: ” Because I don’t have anything to say that someone else hasn’t said better.” “That’s not a good excuse.” I was used to that. What made Ken different is that I wrote him after the conference and said I thought I would start writing again. He replied “Great. Why don’t you get your start writing an article for me in my Personal Excellence magazine?” I was delighted. “I’d love to – what do you want me to write about?” “Write on anything you want – Hastings pudding and put it in a 1200 word bowl.” The rest is history. Ken, in addition to his many publications, is a ghost writer for several well known authors including Stephen Covey and The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. I have had several roles with Linda and Sojourns over the years – consultant/coach, board member and patient – and it is very clear why Linda is so loved and admired by everyone who is fortunate enough to be touched by her wisdom and her expertise. Thirty years ago, I began doing workshops that I titled “Walking the Mystical Path With Practical Feet”, as a way to address the illusion many of us have, that the internal and external worlds can only be lived or experienced separately. It was my hope, as it is now years later, that we can dissolve the artificial splits or separations that we have created between work and family; personal and professional; mind and heart; body and spirit; internal and external, just to name a few of the primary dualities. Ken Wilbur reminds us in his work, “The Holographic Paradigm and other Paradoxes” that “The transcendental essence of the great religions had as its core the notion of advaita or advaya, non-duality.” This conversation attempts to address the universal processes or life experiences which drive us toward wholeness of being (our natural state); and offers us ways we can hold paradoxes, rather than move into isolation, polarity, or separation, when we face changes or transitions in our lives.

There have been many advances in the healing of heart disease. The medical miracles of stents, by-pass surgeries and valve replacements have saved millions of lives. But what else can we learn about our hearts that can keep our hearts healthy so we don’t need these interventions. We certainly understand that what we eat is important and how much we exercise matters. And yet beyond positive thinking, is there a spiritual tool box of information and practices that we can apply to keep our hearts healthy so we never need catastrophic interventions or to encourage rejuvenation of our hearts and blood vessels?
